The International Association of Maritime Universities is pleased to announce the call for research proposals for FY2017. Academic staff of IAMU member universities are invited to propose academic research projects of which the research period is from May 2017 to May 2018.

Call for Research Proposals for FY2017 – Guideline
(Research Period: May 2017 to May 2018)
Theme 1: The changing reality of MET Research fund: Max. USD 60,000
Possible key concepts to be structured and explored within the theme:
· On board training
· Technology in MET
· E-learning
· Standardization
Desirable Goals
· To evaluate changes in Maritime Education and Training
· To develop advances in MET methodology
Theme 2: New developments in Maritime Safety, Security, and Environmental Issues
Research fund: Max. USD 60,000
Possible key concepts to be structured and explored within the theme:
· Energy efficiency in the operation of ships
· Alternative fuels
· Security measures and mechanisms
· Risk management
· Safety technologies
· Pollution prevention
Desirable Goals
· To develop energy efficient designs and operating parameters in order to achieve reduction of ship emissions
· To minimize impact of maritime pollution
· To propose new techniques for improving safe and secure shipping
Theme 3: Maritime Human Resource Management Research fund: Max. USD 60,000
Possible key concepts to be structured and explored within the theme:
· Cultural proficiency
· Human factors
· Leadership
· Modern Human Resource Management practices on ship management
Desirable Goals
· To improve the understanding of human factors in the maritime sector
· To evaluate the economic efficiency of shipping
· To evaluate the effects of external requirements on modern Human Resource Management practices on ship management
Theme 4: Optional theme
Research fund: Max. USD 60,000
Applicants to this optional theme are required to describe possible key concepts to be structured and explored within the theme as well as a couple of desirable goals in their application forms (Form 1-b).
Note:
Each IAMU member institution can submit only one (1) proposal per theme.
Form 1-a is for Theme 1, 2 and 3
Form 1-b is only for Theme 4
